Oberst dG Matthias Wasinger PhDpossesses extensive experience across national and international levels of military leadership. A graduate of the Austrian General Staff Course and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, he served for four years at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, where he worked in the Directorate for Defence and Security Cooperation. He currently commands the 24th High Mountain Infantry Battalion of the Austrian Armed Forces.
In addition, he has significant expertise in strategic and operational wargaming, both in international and national contexts. His proficiency in the development and execution of complex simulation exercises enhances decision-making and preparation in security policy scenarios.
Colonel Wasinger is also the founder and editor of The Defence Horizon Journal. He holds a PhD in interdisciplinary legal studies from the University of Vienna. Through numerous publications in books, newspapers, journals, and periodicals, he combines practical military experience with academic analysis.
