Prof. Dr. Jorit Wintjes

Prof. Dr. Jorit Wintjes teaches and conducts research at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg. In 2013, he qualified as a professor(Habilitation) with a study on the operations of Roman naval forces in Northwestern Europe. In 2020, he was appointed associate professor.  

Since 2018, he lectures at the Helmut Schmidt University and at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College (Both in Hamburg). He regularly teaches courses on wargaming and wargame design at both the University of Würzburg and the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg.

In addition to Roman naval history, one of his main research areas is the study of the history and mechanics of the Prussian Kriegsspiel as well as the development history of wargames in leadership training.

As a co-founder of the Conflict Simulation Group (www.cosim.github.io), he has reconstructed an implementation method tailored to use in modern leadership training. Based on this method, the Conflict Simulation Group has been conducting tactical and operational variants of the Prussian Kriegsspiel for several years.
